A Place Called There

1 KINGS 17:1-6 says,

“And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word. And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook. And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying,Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

It’s a place of promise.  “THERE” is a place of separation…people …places…things.. a desolate place. God’s promise was according to His word.  There was gonna be a desolate place where the dew was dried up and the rain was no more , but God promised a way out by the brook where “THERE” was a living water of promise.  Verse 9 of the text says “Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.” GOD dried up the brook and changed the course for Elijah…OBEDIENCE AND FAITH MUST WORK TOGETHER! When you obey God you will see He always keeps His promises. Romans 4:21 states, “Being fully persuaded that God has the power to do what he has promised.”So Elijah got to a place of faith and he was “THERE”.  Are you there yet?

It’s a place of provision. Look in the verses 4-9. God supplied Elijah’s needs through ravens and a widow woman. He is our Jehovah Jireh!!! Phillipians 4:19 My God shall supply all our needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. When Elijah arrived “THERE” he was reminded God is God and He works on both ends.

It’s a place of power. Because Elijah obeyed God and went “THERE” He saw the great power of God.

*the ravens fed him morning and night.

*the cruise of oil supplying bread for many months for Elijah the widow and her son.

* he saw the Lord raise the widows son from the dead.

* he experienced the Lord like never before….WHY… because he was THERE.

It’s a place of protection.  Later on in the text Chapter 18 tells us Ahab searched everywhere for Elijah .. he wanted him dead.  But because he was THERE, he was under divine protection.

*when you are in the will of God no one or nothing can pluck you out of God’s hands.

Psalms 34:19 says,

“Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the Lord delivereth him out of them all.”

It’s a place of privilege. Elijah being THERE learned more about God and his almighty power than he could have anywhere else. He watched God work and saw the Promise …Provision..Power..and Protection… which made him a very privileged man.

God’s path may lead you through some treacherous waters but until you go with God and watch Him do the impossible in your life how will you ever know what He can do for and with you…ARE YOU THERE?
